A consumer survey by Synovate in July and August found that Hong Kong consumers using printed media look to Yellow Pages first when searching for information and contact details about local companies.

The survey also indicated that 90% of Yellow Pages users who conducted searches found what they needed through the directory, with 81% of those who found information subsequently making contact with companies – either by phone, email or visit – and 55% going on to complete transactions. Customers indicated that their average spend was HK$4,000 per transaction, with purchases ranging from small to very large items. Based on average search and transaction rates, the Synovate study estimates that no less than HK$1.5 billion in sales has been generated among Yellow Pages Consumer Directory advertisers over the last 12 months as a result of directory searches.

The Synovate survey showed that consumers with a monthly household income of more than HK$25,000 (including expatriates) have increased Yellow Pages usage by 53% over the last 12 months. This high-income segment agreed that Yellow Pages represents a comprehensive directory for all industries, with 300,000 company listings and clear classification enabling easy searching. In fact, products and services are divided into 1,800 categories, the most popular of which are dining, homeware, health & beauty and education.
